"Bisagno" by Edoardo Tincani and LOOKin4

"War, in its harsh reality, has always profoundly marked the history of humanity, leaving behind indelible scars. One historical event that continues to reverberate through the generations is definitely the Second World War. Music also becomes a vehicle of memory and awareness of this epochal conflict with the life lessons that history hands down to us." This is inspired by the song "Bisagno," recorded at the Studio Magnani in Reggio Emilia by Edoardo Tincani (lyrics and vocals) and music by Gabriele Chiodo of LOOKin4.

The rock band LOOKin4 that provides the backdrop for "Bisagno" is made up of Paolo Battistelli (bass and backing vocals), Stefano Boggi (electric guitar), Gabriele Chiodo (acoustic guitar and mouth organ) and Andrea Zavaroni (drums). The song was also mixed and mastered by Marco Gatti and distributed by his Record Label Artisti Online.

"Bisagno" is the battle name of Aldo Gastaldi, servant of God and "first partisan of Italy", who was born in Granarolo (Genoa) on 17 September 1921, and grew up in a healthy and simple environment. Enamored by physical activity, he preferred the solitude of the mountains to the noise of the city. He undertook technical studies then enrolled in Economics and Commerce. From his early childhood, Aldo developed a coherent and profound Christian faith, put to the test when a government decree ordered the young university students of the class of 1921 to leave as volunteers for the war.

Gastaldi (Bisagno) carried out his military service, first as a simple soldier, then corporal, sergeant, and finally as an officer. Immediately after the armistice he moved to the mountains and with some other "rebels," started the formation that became the Cichero Division. This was the only division in Italy equipped with a "moral code" which established strict rules of conduct: the Commander, in the light of the Gospel, is not the one who is served but the one who serves.

Bisagno received gold medal for military valor and labeled the first partisan in Italy, then died on May 21, 1945 at the age of 23, in circumstances that were never fully understood.

"Italiano, partigiano, non disprezza l’avversario e giudica la guerra pazzia" is the key verse of the song, in which the artist configures the features of the protagonist of the song: a courageous man moved by values of humanity.

A harmonica opens the piece which takes the form of a pleasant country song with a pressing rhythm that creates imagery of the commander running proudly to serve his country and protect his comrades.

In a Europe still sadly devastated by conflicts, "Bisagno" recalls the madness of every war and the strength of non-violent logic.

This song is highly recommended for anyone who needs an infusion of hope in today's world.
