Intervista con Il Carnevale

Emanuele Carnevale, conosciuto anche come "Il Carnevale", è un artista emergente italiano. Entra nel mondo della musica all'età di 15 anni, specializzandosi e imparando a suonare la chitarra da autodidatta, per poi iscriversi al Mantovanelli Art Lab di Caserta.

Il progetto “Il Carnevale” nasce nel 2019 con la collaborazione del chitarrista campano Luca Mantovanelli (chitarrista di Ramazzotti) che ha prodotto i suoi primi brani: “Villaggio” (2020), “Nella tua testa” (2021) e l'EP d'esordio “Tempesta”. e Perfezione” (2023) contenente il singolo “Gli Elefanti”.

Nel 2023 Carnevale firma con l'etichetta discografica Digital Distribution Bundle e pubblica i singoli "Euphoria", "Coppia e incolla" e il suo ultimo pezzo, "L'amore Difficile" pubblicato nell'agosto 2023.

Emanuele Carnevale, also known as "Il Carnevale," is an Italian emerging artist. He entered the world of music at the age of 15, focusing and teaching himself how to play the guitar, followed by enrollment at the Mantovanelli Art Lab in Caserta.

The "Il Carnevale" project was created in 2019 with the collaboration of the Campania guitarist Luca Mantovanelli (Ramazzotti's guitarist) who produced his first songs: “Villaggio” (2020), “Nella tua testa” (2021) and the debut EP “Tempesta e Perfezione” (2023) containing the single “Gli Elefanti”.

In 2023, Carnevale signed with the record label Digital Distribution Bundle and released the singles, "Euphoria," "Coppia e incolla," and his latest piece, "L'amore Difficile" released in August 2023.

Cosa ti ha ispirato a diventare un musicista?
What inspired you to become a musician?

L’amore spassionato per la musica che è esploso in età adolescenziale.
L’essere stato un grande “ascoltatore” mi ha spinto ad imparare a suonare uno strumento e, col tempo, a scrivere anche cose mie. Il supporto degli amici, della mia famiglia e degli insegnanti è stato fondamentale.

Having been a great "listener" pushed me to learn to play an instrument and, over time, to also write my own things. The support of friends, my family and teachers was fundamental.

Quanti anni avevi quando hai iniziato a suonare?
How old were you when you started playing music?

Ho iniziato a suonare la chitarra intorno ai 15 anni.
Volevo imparare le canzoni di Vasco da poterle cantare con gli amici.

I started playing the guitar around 15 years old.
I wanted to learn Vasco's songs so I could sing them with friends.

Come descriveresti la tua musica?
How would you describe your music?

È un misto tra cantautorato e pop. Nei miei testi malinconici prediligo arrangiamenti intimi cantautoriali, in quelli più leggeri invece mi diverto con contaminazioni elettropop.
Parlo delle insicurezze e delle fragilità ancora presenti nell’età adulta e al tormentato rapporto che si ha con le relazioni e l’amore.

It's a mix between songwriting and pop. In my melancholic lyrics I prefer intimate singer-songwriter arrangements, while in the lighter ones I have fun with electropop elements.
I'm talking about the insecurities and fragilities still present in adulthood and the tormented relationship one has with relationships and love.

Where have you performed?

Per lo più in locali della mia zona (Caserta).

Mostly in clubs in my area (Caserta).

Dov'è il luogo del tuo concerto ideale?
Where is your ideal concert venue?

Mi piacciono tanto i locali con le luci soffuse, dove si ascolta musica bevendo una buona birra.

I really like places with soft lights, where you listen to music while drinking a good beer.

Qual è la tua canzone preferita da esibire?
What is your favorite song to perform?

Si intitola “Villaggio”. È la prima che ho scritto e ci sono particolarmente legato.
Essendo un brano sull’empatia, penso sia il più diretto per entrare in contatto con l’ascoltatore.

It's called "Villaggio." It's the first one I wrote and I'm particularly attached to it.
Being a song about empathy, I think it's the most direct to connect with the listener.

Quali musicisti famosi ammiri?
Which famous musicians do you admire?

Adoro Niccolò Fabi per la sensibilità dei testi. Tutto il cantautorato classico è stato fonte di ispirazione.
Tra gli artisti indie degli ultimi anni mi piace molto Giorgio Poi, Calcutta, Colapesce e Dimartino, Fulminacci, Cosmo.

I love Niccolò Fabi for the sensitivity of the lyrics. All the classic songwriting was a source of inspiration.
Among the indie artists of recent years I really like Giorgio Poi, Calcutta, Colapesce and Dimartino, Fulminacci, Cosmo.

Qual è il miglior consiglio che ti è stato dato?
What is the best advice you have been given?

Quello di non essere rigido sulle proprie scelte artistiche ma di lasciarsi contaminare e guidare da chi può saperne più di te. Condizione fondamentale per evolversi e crescere.

That of not being rigid about your artistic choices but of letting yourself be influenced and guided by those who know more than you. Fundamental condition for evolving and growing.

Se potessi cambiare qualcosa nel settore della musica, quale sarebbe?
If you could change anything in the music industry, what would it be?

Mi piacerebbe ci fosse più interesse per la musica intesa come espressione d’arte pura, slegata dai canoni commerciali, rispetto a quella ideata per diventare un prodotto d’ intrattenimento.

I would like there to be more interest in music understood as an expression of pure art, disconnected from commercial canons, rather than music designed to become an entertainment product.

Qual è un messaggio che vorresti dare ai tuoi fan?
What is one message you would like to give to your fans?

Non ho un messaggio particolare, mi piacerebbe soltanto che l’ascolto dei miei brani come per quelli di tutti in realtà, fosse un ascolto “impegnato”. Con attenzione al significato e a ciò che ogni artista intende comunicare palesemente e tra le righe.
Le canzoni hanno un’anima e significano spesso più di quello che si possa percepire da ascolti “distratti”.

I don't have a particular message, I would just like listening to my songs, like everyone else's, to be "engaged" listening. With attention to the meaning and what each artist intends to communicate clearly and between the lines.
Songs have a soul and often mean more than what can be perceived from "distracted" listening.

Qual è il prossimo per te?
What's next for you?

Il prossimo progetto si intitolerà “Bosco Verticale”. Come l’ultimo brano parla ancora, in sostanza, d’amore. In tutte le sfaccettature che può comprendere. In particolare, quando questo viene messo a dura prova dalle sirene del successo e della bella vita.

The next project will be entitled “Bosco Verticale”. Like the last song, it still essentially talks about love. In all the facets that it can understand. In particular, when this is put to the test by the sirens of success and the good life.
